Summer winding down.... Burn ban in Effect!

Image
The choke cherries are out and are so pretty against the bright blue sky! Unfortunately, we have had a very "dry" hot summer and there is a burn ban in effect except for "hosted" campgrounds. This brings in all the people from the "dispersed area" who don't like to follow rules.. ha! Needless to say, it's a little more stressful trying to keep everyone happy. Have been so much busier this year too and now that boat ramp is dry we do have fewer folks coming out to picnic area, but more campers so still keeping more than busy enough! Only about 4 more weeks to go though and August seems to be flying by... Looking forward to seeing friends Joyce and Dave this weeekend and brother John is due in area soon too..

Our 1st Eviction!

Cute little guy eating like crazy as you can see by his fat little cheeks. Love these little guys. They have been hammering at us from the trees above dropping green pine cones on the coach. Ouch! Those things hit with a BANG! So the summer is winding down and that is a good thing. Another very FULL weekend. Now that fires are no longer allowed in the dispearsed area, they are coming into the paid campgrounds... had a guy who came in Friday night (his friends arrived day earlier and paid for campsite for him) and he became beligerent when asked to pay for 2nd vehicle. Of course he didn't want to pay and when Early gets this "stubborn" streak going they do not know who they are up against! ha! anyway, he did pay for 2nd vehicle but then when told he needed to put his dog on leash became very mouthy... said he would not put his dog on a leash! We explained all we had to do was tell him the rules but could not enforce them. He followed us down the road mouthy the

Ouch - did we get stung!!

As wonderful camp ground hosts we decided it was time to trim trees and bushes along the trails out at Picnic Island.. okay, I decided... (see if Earl ever listens to me again) - ha! Anyway, I pointed and he chopped until I sent him ahead and in process of clearing trail we both screamed OUCH at same time. I had a yellow jacket stinging me on the inside of my thigh right through my clothes and had to pick him off with my fingers! Earl had one in his shirt I let loose when untucked his shirt! Then he got bit twice more behind his knee! Good grief! You think we were near a nest?? His bites hurt and itched some but no swelling really. On the other hand my bite turned into a lump about the size of an orange and started to spread down my thigh! Yikes. Called the doc and was told I was fine. Keep putting on cortazone cream and take an antihystimine (not quite sure what that does) - Will last about 7 days.. yikes.. Feel fine so not allergic but it still itches like crazy... Will

Group Campers

This past weekend began on Wednesday when our 1st group of campers began arriving - they ultimately took up 14 sites and would have taken up more but by that time there weren't any more sites available! They had to double up and triple up in some cases! Good grief and then on Thursday the other group came in and took another 11 sites! We were VERY BUSY!!! The 2nd group are very familiar to us now. They 1st came to us last year when they could not get into kachess and now they love Wish Poosh - last time they came they gave us a 10lb bag of oranges, a large bowl of cherries and apples and this time they gave us two bags of apples (golden delicious and granny smith) and a large bag of tiny apricots! never saw apricots so small. They are good though and we are enjoying it all so much. great group of people... The best part of this job is the great people we meet and the very quiet times we have in such a lovely environment! ha!
