Newburyport, MA

Nothing quite like a seaport town to make you feel life is good especially on a nice day.  We took a little ride (it is just across the river from us here in Salisbury beach (if you look at tree line behind these boats and you had binoculars you could see our campground). ha!  From another view the water looks perfectly lovely here too.  This is really the mouth of the Merrimack river where it meets the atlantic ocean.  Quite a site.  There are many little shops tucked here and there and we window shopped and enjoyed all the activity in this cute little town.  Very historic as one of the earliest settlements here in MA.  Nothing like what it once was when ship building was a major thing or whale hunting but the town has adaped as towns do over time.  And yes, here is one of my pretty white steeples. Love this stuff...

Loving the Northeast

Image
One of the things I love about the Northeast are all the wonderful steeples!  Many of them have wonderful clocks (that actually have correct time) and many are white or with weather vanes.   I am looking forward to our "leaf peeping" tour with white steeples peeking through the colorful trees! ha!  Let's hope the weather cooperates. Have to put a plug in for the most wonderful Italian restaurant - " Bertuccis" Not only does this place have a very rich chocolate mousse which is Early's most favorite dessert but their food is so tasty and good.  I wonder if they make all their own dough on the spot.  Excellent as far as taste goes at least we think so. They are only in the northeast so the rest of the country is missing out but who knows what the future will bring.

Salisbury Beach, MA

Last evening we were delighted with the spectacular show we had in the sky!! What is there about a gorgeous sunset!!  I oohed and ahhed my way all around the beach and river marveling at the ever changing sky and snapping pictures here and there.. The moon trying to rise above these pink clouds while behind us the sun going down was making the sky all matter of colors.. The fishermen reluctant to call it a night and a wedding reception carrying on in the pavaillion... perfect night for it.  Perfectly lovely today too.

Hingham, MA

Image
Before leaving Hingham I finally was able to get a picture of this sign.  Massachusetts has one for each of their towns and it's such a kick to drive from one town to another and see this sign with date of settlement started.  Hard to get pictures because you don't know where the town line begins and there is no place to pull over for a quick stop and picture.  It's a bummer. On this one I was lucky enough after a month to be driving towards sign and 1st at stoplight with camera next to me. ha!  All these towns are so historic and have some wonderful history.  Too bad so many have been neglected.  Roads are terrible in most places and some are really run down while others thrive.. just like anywhere.  Just interesting observations. I was taken so much with Hingham because we lived there for 5 weeks and it was so CLEAN!  Loved the manicured yards and over 1800 historic homes and some still in residence of 13 generations!  That is something in this young country with so littl

Anniverary Time - Lobster dinner!!!

Image
Celebrated the beginning of our 12th year on the road with a lobster dinner in Plymouth!  Where has the time gone? A blink of an eye and yes we have been across the country now 3 times, all across Canada and even up to Alaska and some parts of Mexico but have we seen it all. No way.. still feel adventurous and although we sit a little longer now in places due to high fuel costs and the novelty wearing off some it's still a great life!  At least we are still together and tomorrow we move again. ha!  Here is to the next 12!!

Plymouth, MA

Back to Plymouth for another fun day.  Took walking tour through the town to see the historic sites such as the Jabez Howland house that was actually built by one of the pilgrims and is still standing.  They have a number of historic homes still in use today although the town has really crowded in around them.  No yards to speak of but still fun to see and read the placques.  While walking thru town and visiting Plymouth rock and the Monument to immigrants found a wedding going on in Brewster park.  Fun and pretty day.  One of the greatest things they have done in that town is build the enormous National Monument to the Forefathers. Largest solid granite monument in America. It is 216 times life-size.  Dedicated to the virtues of the Pilgrims, major figures represented are Faith, Freedom, Morality, Law and Education. Very cool! Loved it.. Of course we had to walk the waterfront and visit the Mayflower II and wonder how in the world did they ever travel in these horrible little ships w
