Memorial Day Weekend

Image
What to do on a rainy, cool holiday - make your own patriot t-shirt of course. ha!  We joined a large group to try again to make our own t-shirts using tape, contact paper, stencils and spray paint! oh joy - what a mess!  fun though. Tried this a number of years ago (about 11 I think) and the paint we used that time ran - but this time looks like the real deal.  Anyway, we had a good time and enjoyed all the creativity flowing.  What else to do in the rain?  Goodness, the weather report said Sunday would be the "best" day and it rained non stop until about 4 pm.  Oh well, we expect it and would hardly seem like Memorial day weekend if it didn't rain up here!  Of course summer is not officially due for another month anyway so guess we can take it ok.  Since bridge collapse on the I-5 corridor we aren't too excited about getting out and about anyway.  Traffic being diverted and causing terrible back ups - plan to leave on Thursday so hopefully we'll get out during

Work day!

Oh what a day!  We joined in the "work day" at Lake Stickney with the others from that area who care about conservancy of the lake.  This is a small lake in Lynnwood with a public dock and a number of homes around it, however they have been working hard with Snohomish Parks Department to preserve the land on one end of the lake and to clean and clear and keep for the community.  A community effort they have been working at for years and this is the 1st time we have been in area at time of "work day".  So we worked like fiends scraping, chopping, clearing grown over debris and Early even took part as one of the cooks and a good time was had by all.  The Parks Department provided tools and tent and water and our friend Joyce who heads up this event each year worked with the community to provide food for lunch and snacks for all the hard workers!  Quite an effort and fortunately for us all the rain held off.  It was grey and cool (perfect) for physical labor.   Terrib

Leavenworth, Washington

Took advantage of nice sunny day and went to visit the cute little town of Leavenworth.  It was so pretty driving over along Hwy 2 with the river and snow capped mountains - beautiful really.  Enjoyed it so much we stopped along river for a picnic lunch.  Hard to beat the scenery!  Spotted an osprey/eagle nest on top of one of the burned out trees along the river but no birds. This is Wenatchee river and it is ferocious as these rivers tend to be (just looking at all the downed trees that are washed up the banks of the rivers) - Fun.

"Seattle" History and Industry Museum

Image
Took daughter Mary and grandchildren to new "Seattle" History and Industry Museum on south end of Lake Union.  Oh the changes down there... hardly recognized the place.  A definite flavor of Microsoft's influence in the Seattle area but most displays are things mostly all from Seattle over their history and quite interesting really.  Nicely done.  We took advantage of "free" on 1st Thursday of the month.  A lot of hands on displays and the setting on Lake Union could not be prettier although parking is an issue!
