Usery Mountain Regional Park, Apache Junction, AZ

Image
One of the prettiest places down here in the Southwest is Usery Park!  Just love this park.  We camped here many years ago now but our good friends were staying here so went over to visit for the day.  This park has really changed from when we camped here and reservations are a must although they do have an overflow area they still charge for.  The camping area is packed - and no wonder.  They have all sorts of wonderful hikes here, a visitor center, play grounds and wonderful views... unfortunately these pictures aren't all that great but it is a very pretty place.  The wind came up to try and blow us away a bit.  They do allow bird feeders and we have been told the birds have eaten 40 lbs of seed in a week !  Hungry little buggars! A nice variety of birds too and think all our peach faced loved birds went over to Usery - haven't seen any for a while.  Hummingbirds are still here so happy to still have them hanging around.

Citrus Time in AZ

Image
Oh boy, do we have the oranges!  Our neighbors just delivered these two bags of the juiciest, sweetest oranges after filling up our bucket the other day with other oranges!  We have been enjoying all this wonderful citrus fruit!  It would seem nearly everyone in this area has at least one or two trees and why not?  The fruit is appearing in bags on sidewalks - free for the taking.  Heard the food bank will come out and pick your tree too.  It's wonderful.

Clean up on the Nature Trail

Image
Now that we belong to Dreamland Villa we have been making an effort to participate in some of the activities.  We are on the list for volunteers so received the call the other day asking if we would help with the "clean up" of the "Nature Trail".  Others had gone out before and cut the overgrowth so all we had to do was feed this chipper thing.  Oh my goodness, I have never done this before and it was interesting.  Just the right number of folks; otherwise we would have been tripping over each other.  One of the homeowners bordering the trail brought out homemade cookies and bottles of water for us.  What a dusty dirty job.  We heeded our instructions to wear long sleeves and long pants and gloves - those who did not have arms that look like they went through the shredder, oh well.  Glad to be of some help.
