Casa Grande National Monument

Image
It has been a grand few months and very busy with acquiring new house and having to furnish it and get settled (so to speak) however took a drive out to Casa Grande to see monument of old ruins.  Amazing how these structures lasted for so many years and seemingly built of clay - roof was not added until 1920's as a little protection.  Most all are gone now and it's an interesting story how they settled out here in the flat valley when most of these types of people built their homes up against some protection like a hillside.  Enjoyed the visit and took time to shop at "prison store" in Florence.  Open to the public and guess they do a lot of farming and sell hay by the bale. Had never heard of this before.

Usery Regional Park

Image
Although we have "wintered" in the Southwest many times this year we are late enough to see the desert starting to bloom!  It is quite a site!  Took ride out to Usery today with friends Dean and Laurie Singer and took short hike through the desert to admire all the color.  Perfectly lovely day and can't beat the scenery.  A very popular park there were people everywhere and hardly a place to park.  Still a few weeks early for full bloom but signs are the flowers are on their way.

Friendly birthday celebration!

Image
Oh what a time we have had this past week enjoying catching up with friends from the past - 47 years of friendship!  Peggy and Joe flew out from Georgia and Veronica and Jr drove out from California!  Converged on the Munday's and we all had 3 days of  talk and eating and even some sight seeing!  Since most all of our birthdays are close to each other, also had 1 big celebration!  Too much fun and so great that we could all get together like this.. Thanks to Peggy for all the arrangements!

Ostrich races

Image
The sun came out after a big spring thunderstorm on Friday and we went over to see son Roy and granddaughter Jaylee at the Ostrich races.  We had seen them before out at Quartzsite years ago when they still had them there; but this was fun.  They had the ostrich races along with donkey races and volunteers chasing after emus.  Silly but fun and the weather was perfect. A big carnival and fun for all - boy the prices were high for all the food and rides.

Pruning time

Image
Our house has been blessed with 2 grapefruit (yellow) trees, one orange tree and one fig tree!  Great except these poor trees have been terribly neglected. Since we have taken ownership we have watered, fed and pruned and again Earl was out there working on this one grapefruit tree trying out his new tool!  Looks like it works great.  He really butchered this poor tree but it's great because hidden by a lot of the outer leaves were all sorts of dead branches.   Good thing our trash man comes twice a week because oh boy - we have so much to give him each time!  Of course he is doing all this pruning in between working on installing the sprinkler system for our beloved trees!  Guess it's a good thing we still have RV so he can have a rest period.  One thing about it is we both work out side for a while and we both sleep well! ha!

Natural History Museum, Mesa, AZ

Image
Took advantage of "free" Sunday (once a month) and went with friends Laurie and Dean Singer to this Natural History Museum.  Considering it is in little ol Mesa was a bit surprised how large it was and all the dinosaurs it seemed to have besides all the "hands on" exhibits for the very young.  They even have an enactment of a flash flood.  Very interesting and a great way to spend an afternoon indoors when it's either too hot (haven't seen that yet) or too cold. ha!  There are a number of museums now offering free Sunday's once a month and glad we all took advantage of this one.
