Tulips everywhere!!

Image
Took one of the nice days we had and made the long journey up to La Conner for the tulips!  I remember the days of coming over the hill and seeing tulips everywhere - not so any more.  Think those days are gone forever, however there are still a lot of flowers!  Nothing quite like walking these lovely fields of tulips as far as you can see!  Farmers have gone in more for food and so not a lot of farms anymore growing flowers but enough I guess.  I think they mostly all belong to one family but there is at least one other family still farming the gorgeous bulbs!  Had a picture perfect day and loved every minute of it.  They don't last long and we missed them last year when we stopped in Holland, Michigan and they had had a warm spring and tulips and come and gone by the time we arrived in late April!

Tea time

Our mad dash to Washington was all for the annual Mother's/Daughter tea at daughter Mary's church.  It was so great to see her again and of course Rebekah who is growing like a weed!  We picked up my ex-mother-in-law along the way so she could celebrate too. Four generations is not too bad.  We all had a great time and enjoyed the day immensely.  They really know how to put an event together there and the food was abundant and delicious!

The sun is hiding?

Just arrived at Monroe for the next 3 weeks along with the Rain and Wet!  What more can you expect from spring in the Pacific Northwest!  The trip went fine and did see a few accidents along the way but fortunately for us they were on other side of the roadway.  We had a bit of everything crossing the sierra's; rain, snow, sleet and sunshine even!  Nice drive though and nothing too scary!  The "green" everywhere we look is pretty and spring has her cheerful colored dress on so it's pretty everywhere you look with the trees and flowers in bloom!  Made it just in time for the Mother/Daughter tea tomorrow so we'll be looking forward to catching up with family now that we are here.  Did get a sneak peek though; since we by passed the night in Tonopah and went direct to Reno we caught Scarlett there on before she left to go back to Seattle so had supper with her.  Always love seeing the family!

Heart Attack Grill, Las Vegas, NV

We finally made it to the "Heart Attack Grill" after hearing about this place from our good friends who have traveled west twice to go there!  The 1st time they drove out from Georgia (on their trip west) and the place was closed for remodel.  Then they came to visit us in Mesa and the place had closed and moved to Las Vegas.  So here we are, to enjoy a double bypass burger for Joe!  Only when we tried to get in the door it was locked!  That's right folks, no entry!  Their computer system was down so they locked he place up and all went home.  We did see people in there and saw a few of the nurses who check your blood pressure while eating!  Even spoke to one.  Trouble with that excuse is they only take cash!  So why does their computer system have anything to do with being down?  Can't they do it old fashioned way and just write out a ticket? Big disappointment to say the least!  Oh well, plans are to stop here again when traveling south in the fall so perhaps th

Las Vegas, NV

One of the fun things we like to do while visiting Las Vegas is see some of the shows like the water show at the Bellagio!  What  production and on a perfectly lovely day no less!  Took a walk down part of the strip but a bit warm and we have seen all this so many times.  The Strip has really changed though and for some unknown reason not all of it for the better.  If you want a free freak show this is the place to go.  Good grief, you would think it almost a contest to see who can look the worst! ha!  So different from when I was young and all were doing everything to try and look their best (must add including rollers in the hair)!  Now I am dating myself.  Funny when you think of it like that.. anyway, we had a good time and over ate as ususal!

Slide Rock State Park

Image
Oak Creek Canyon out of Sedona, AZ is a lovely drive but one of the most scenic places is Slide Rock State Park.  Perfectly lovely spot and enjoyed the day very much.  Trouped through the cute little town of Sedona and then walked around the State Park with a few other stops along the way!  Wonderful.  Spring is not completely sprung up here but we were up at 5,000 ft so guess it won't be long before everything is in bloom.

Jerome, AZ

Glad we left when we did with big winds due on Monday; so after getting settled in at Verde we took short day trip up to the cute little old mining town of Jerome.  Had to stop at the The Haunted Hamburger and all those cute little shops and galleries!  Windy and cool with some rain - No view with the sand blowing about!  As for being on the road again, just like we never missed a beat!  Thought it might 'feel' a little different but no.. just same as always. Hoping for some sunshine tomorrow for a visit to Sedona.  Today stayed home and joined in the fun at afternoon cribbage at the lodge.  Fun to see old friends again.

Getting Ready to roll

This has been a very active "winter" but now that spring is here and the warmer weather it is time to roll north for the summer months!  Hard to beat this lovely weather - heard news winds are due with gusts up to 50 mph on Monday so guess we'll move up date to Sunday - that means work!  Roadrunner nearly packed anyway - last minute things to do.  Have enjoyed this  winter so much and walks through the neighborhood each day.  Even able to see some of the desert bloom!
