Astoria Column

Took advantage of the perfectly lovely day and climbed all 164 steps up this tower to get a glimpse of where the Columbia River runs between the States of Washington and Oregon. Oh my goodness, what a view and worth every step!  It's a little tight inside there and many other folks were taking the hike too.  Fun.  So glad we did this today.  The weather here is about 10 degrees cooler than Portland so very nice in the high 70's!  Perfect.

Seaview, Washington

Every once in a while, if you are fortunate, you come across a great watering hole!  We found ours here in the Long Beach area of Washington.  Oh my goodness!  This place is so D E L I C I O U S !!!  Inquired about it at the visitor center and the person there told us it was wonderful and well worth the visit but they are not listed with them - Laurie told us it was because she takes that money and gives to families in need instead of paying for a listing. She does not need to pay for a listing. Word of mouth fills the place and people like us who are mighty impressed with the food and service! They are only open until around noon but after eating breakfast here doubt if you need to eat the rest of the day! ha!

Long Beach area Washington

Upon our arrival in the Long Beach area of Washington we initially had lovely weather.  Beautiful skies and perfectly lovely mid 70's temps. Took a ride around town and Saturday visited the Ilwaco market along this marina.  Couldn't ask for a nicer day.  Then Sunday came the rain and clouds with it... for days we have been holed up inside - not too cold mid 60's but grey and windy and rainy and just not nice!  We are now facing a new weekend with temps all over the country soaring to new heights and we are just now seeing the sun as I sit writing this come out again.  Supposed to be nice for next week or so ... let's hope so.  Need to get back out and about...

Daughter Mary  arranged for a guided tour of both the Capital Building in Olympia and the Governors Mansion.  There was quite a group of us so we picnic'd on the grounds and climbed on trees and did things boys and girls of a very active age will do... The tour was done by a very knowledgeable lady.  Although they are in the process of a "special session" we were there right at the lunch hour so didn't get to see any action. darn!  Tour of mansion was nice enough and a little odd with each room being described by a different person.  Made us feel special but thought it a little odd.  All had a good time and were glad we were able to join the group.  A little surprising the children had questions too so that added to the overall experience.

Summer fun!

The sun finally came out here in Washington and so to celebrate had daughter Mary bring her children and their cousins over for sun summer fun in the pool!  They had so much fun and we had fun watching them all.  Unfortunately the boys wanted to go on a hike so I went with the 3 of them and they stirred up a bees nest - oh joy!  All 3 were stung at least twice each and by some miracle I didn't get stung at all but then I was coming up the rear!  Toothpaste and more pool time and they were all fine.  Of course took us a full day to recover from all this youthful excitement but so glad they were able to take advantage of this beautiful pool and the facilities!

Silly girls

It is hard to believe these girls are only 13 yrs old but soon to be 14 so does that make a difference? ha!  Took them shopping the other day and they quickly made fun by trying on prom dresses!  Oh my goodness.  It was so silly but fun.  It took me back so many years to my own youth and how much fun we had messing around department stores but in all those times never once occurred to us to try on prom dresses.  Fun to be able to see my granddaughter goof off with her cousin though.  Think their parents are going to have their hands full with these teens! Pay back time. ha!
