Visiting Seattle - Hiram Chittenden Locks

Image
It is not always dark and gloomy here in Seattle... Some days the sun really does shine and the sky is the bluest blue you've ever seen.. Took advantage of the gorgeous day and took brother John and friend Dave into town to the Locks and a visit to the Seattle waterfront and Pike's Place market. Lovely day, picture perfect and although a lot of people, not too many... we were so fortunate to be able to get a parking place right along the waterfront! So many boats coming back from a lovely weekend they had the large lock open and using the small locks to let boats out into the bay... fun fun and fish in the ladder too although they said the fish run had peaked about 2 weeks ago! We saw a number of fish in the viewing windows of the ladder.

Wish Poosh is Closed for the season!

After being at Wish Poosh all summer we finally saw our Piliated Woodpecker! He flew right across the window of the car as we were driving out... what a wonder sight. There are many trees with scars from this guy and as large a hole as he makes you would think it would kill the trees but no, we see where the tree heals and only a scar is left.. amazing.. of course right behind our rig was a cedar tree with about 5 holes from this guy and the tree is still thriving - although for how much longer is any ones guess. There is a family of small red squirrels living in that tree now and have been for a few months! they are cute as the dickens poking their little faces out of the holes but not sure the tree can survive! Only time will tell. Our plans at this point are not to return to Wish Poosh next season. We want to travel east, we have a new grandchild due any day over in Hawaii and Earl has major surgery on Oct 1 which will dictate everything... so for now, we are planning to stay c

A visit from son Roy!

Were so thankful to have son Roy come over for a few days visit from Hawaii! Especially now when his 1st born is due any time! Had a great time showing him our little world up here and took him up to Owhi Campground on Cooper Lake... it's so lovely up there.. a little alpine lake tucked in the hills about 10 miles from Wish Poosh and Lake Cle Elum. Lovely time for all of us... It was fun running into some folks who had come to us looking for a place to go fishing and we had sent them up to Cooper lake and lo and behold there they were fishing when we arrived. Hadn't caught any fish but they loved the lake and area... of course what is not to like?

Long hot summer and B E E S ! ! !

This year was unusually warm and with it came the BEES! Good grief, it was awful - worse then the mosquitos because these little jewels BITE! One little girl was stung 20 times after running through their home in a downed log! We did learn that toothpaste really helps if you put on bite immediately! Thank goodness! These little guys built a nest on one of our slides on the RV we just found. Learned how to make a trap for them from a plastic water bottle... cut the bottle off about a 1/3 of the way down and invert the top into the bottle and put some sort of meat or something to attract them and once they go into the bottle they can't seem to figure out how to get out. We had torrential rain over Labor Day weekend and that seemed to do the trick to getting rid of a lot of these little guys but heard they were a big problem all over the state with the summer being so dry and no rain to drown them out of their holes in the ground where they nest!
