Median, Texas

Image
One of the great things about this park in Medina, TX is all the deer they have that come visiting. It is a wonder and just plain fun to feed these hungry little guys. They are more spooked us  then we are of them but today I had one try to follow me inside the rv! It was just a very young fawn and as cute as it was, no, we do not want a deer as a pet! Good grief. We did purchase 2 50lb bags of feed and are nearly thru with one after just 2 days... We give them all produce we do not eat (ends of lettuce etc and they love it!). They even eat bananas! Fun fun.. Off to San Antonio tomorrow.

Visit to Fort Worth

Image
Have been hanging out here at lake Whitney, TX. Did take a ride into Fort Worth the other day to visit stock yards and do a little shopping. The 'stock yard" used to be where they rounded up the cattle (longhorns) of course but no longer. Now it is still the old wooden buidings with covered sidewalks, but all little shops, boutiques and eating establishments. Bill Bob's is still there too. Enjoyed wandering about. Missed seeing the longhorns though. Guess they still have a few left but they were hidden in back so missed them. Found this car though and W.A. Wallace (a long lost cousin). ha!

Texas State Fair

Image
Only in Texas! Spent a fun time at the State Fair in Dallas. They had this sculpture of butter of the football people and chips made in the shape of the state of Texas! Where else are you going to find something like this? Love their sense of humor and sense of State! Check out their ferris wheel! Even the center is their state flag! Humdity was down and not too hot so very nice!!!

Roswell, NM and The Lone Star State

Image
Moving right along... After leaving Roswell we headed east for an overnight stay in Lubbock (home of Buddy Holly and other greats) . Didn't do the tourist thing this time because we did it last time we were there in 2007 but enjoyed being there just the same. From there we had to stop by the little town of MUNDAY! It is not a growing town but still fun to visit. Had our mail sent there so they could see some relations of the person who named the town over 100 years ago! Texas is a unique state and one of their best attributes is their friendly driving - no kidding - just like the sign says. Most roads have a wide shoulder so when you are traveling slower than upcoming traffic you can stradle the shoulder lane and let the cars pass. They are happy and wave thanks and you are not stressed about them wanting to pass. Best of all worlds. Other states could learn a lot from these drivers. ha!

Here are the photos that I want to share with you

It is a kick to go to Roswell because you just don't know what you will find. We were greeted at the new Walmart with the cartons of Pepsi looking like an alien. ha! Have to say something about Roswell. We were there 9 years ago and thought the town was dying. Had very few businesses and seemed more on the out than any town we could remember. A very pleasant surprise to see this town making huge strides and now has population over 60,000 and a growing community and not just in housing! In fact, did not see where the housing affected this town but there are new businesses and it's a wonder in these times to see somthing like this. Nice clean town and one we were pleased to visit.

International Balloon Fiesta, Albuquerque, NM

Image
The 39th Annual International Balloon Fiesta is still in progress. We are happy to report it has been fairly successful thus far this year. The 4 days we attended the balloons have all flown despite a few small hang-ups... We have had such a fun time crewing for our balloonist friends from New Zealand again. They are a wonderful family who we really enjoyed getting to know a little better and meeting a lot of new folks too! Wow! Hard work especially since this year it was so much WARMER and allergies are still plaguing me... oh well. We had boo coo fun and now we are really pooped! On the road again with 1st night in Roswell, NM (the UFO Capital of World) and then on to the great state of Texas!!! Whoopee!
