Humbug State Park, OR

Myers Flat, CA was where we parted ways with brother John. We had traveled together since December and now we were continuing north and he is going to work his way back to Reno for some doc appts. etc... we are scheduled to report for work at Wish Poosh again in May so want to get back a little earlier to get a few things done before we go over the hill. Our planned stop was at Humbug State Park about 80 miles north of the Calif border - a little niche of a park with a wonderful hill for hiking and beach for beachcombing... we have always enjoyed this park very much, until now.... The day we left Myers Flat is was raining the 15th of Mar.. and a bit windy at times but we didn't think too much of it.. then as we were nearing Humbug I noticed the culverts were running pretty full with rushing muddy water.. still did not think too much of it. It was getting later in the day and we were looking forward to getting to a campsite and getting set up before dark - we pulled into the campground and noticed the "little" creek that runs through it was quite full... Earl commented the little bridges might not hold.. hummm food for thought - then we noticed a baracade set up on one of the roads so we took a wrong way road to get to the campsite we wanted - okay now we have a decision - do we drive through the water or unhook the car and back up - drive through of course - we are in the RV for pity sake and surely we can stay on the road in this! So we try it - I did say try because we did not get 10 ft when we were suddenly stuck and had to back up - so I opened the door to find water at my entrance. We then quickly changed into water shoes and pulled our pant legs up above our knees so we could wade through the water to unhook the car! Very exciting and the water was COLD!

I noticed the water may get in to the underground storage but hope it doesn't and hoped it would not rush into the car when I opened the door... we just made it... I backed out and parked the car in a higher spot and ran back to help Earl back the rv out... what an ordeal!!! We learned the hard way and I must add - we were very fortunate not to have ruined anything... nothing was damaged or ruined and no water came rushing in - we did not have to be towed out... someone was looking out for us... we are very grateful.

Decided to put off stay until a dryer time of year and continued up the road. The ranger told us the campground is subject to flooding in these months and he had put baracades up all over by the time we left. Exciting... we kept on to Florence and are holed up here until tomorrow when we continue on our journey...
